Mongolia: Mining for a Green Future?

While Mongolia might be known for its vast steppes, nomadic traditions, and mineral wealth, a new generation of innovators is looking to position the nation as a leader in climate technology. This burgeoning scene stands to benefit from the LowCarbon.Earth accelerator program, an initiative supported by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Massive Earth Foundation.

Now entering its fourth year, the LowCarbon.Earth program focuses on accelerating startups across the Asia-Pacific region tackling climate change challenges. The program has a notable track record, having supported over 100 startups and attracting over 2,500 applications from across the region. With over $350 million raised by participating startups, the program demonstrably helps fledgling companies scale their operations.

This year’s program targets six key sectors: clean air, agricultural technology, renewable energy, digital innovation for climate solutions, sustainable mobility, and plastic pollution. These sectors are particularly relevant for Mongolia, a country facing pressing environmental issues like air pollution and desertification, even as its mining industry grows.

Low Carbon Earth 2023 Finale Event in Bangkok

The program's three-month online bootcamp, commencing on September 2nd, offers selected startups a chance to receive mentorship from experienced industry leaders, founders, and venture capitalists. The program culminates in an in-person Demo Day in Bangkok during the second week of December. This event provides a platform for startups to pitch their innovative solutions to prominent global climate tech investors.

The LowCarbon.Earth program offers a unique opportunity for Mongolian startups to gain international recognition, access vital funding, and network with global players in the climate tech sector. The deadline for applications is August 27th, though submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
